An array of biological activity has been attributed to lactalbumin hydrolysates (LAH), leading to its application as a medium supplement in a range of cell culture systems including chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cells, plant cells, and the cultivation of entomopathogenic fungi, plant-pathogenic spiroplasmas and trematodes. LAH is widely applied in the production of viral vaccines, lactobacilli, and is a key ingredient in a plethora of prepared media. It has been reported to contain growth promoting factors known to stimulate cellular proliferation and is a common ingredient in many vaccine production media for BHK cells.
